“If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15)
Jesus made it remarkably simple: “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Love and obedience are inseparable in the Christian life. But here’s where we must be careful because this isn’t about perfectionism or works-based salvation. It’s about direction and desire.
A genuine believer wants to obey God. Even when we fail (and we will fail) there’s a conviction that follows, a discomfort with sin that drives us back to repentance. This internal struggle is good news in reality. It means God hasn’t abandoned us to our sin. He’s actively working in our hearts, refusing to let us wander too far without the gentle (or sometimes not-so-gentle) tug of His Spirit calling us home.
If you find yourself troubled when you sin, if there’s a voice within saying “this isn’t who you are in Christ,” take heart. That very conviction is evidence of authentic faith.
