Love For God, Love For Others

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

1 John 3:16

Perhaps nothing marks a believer more clearly than love for God and for others. Jesus identified loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength as the greatest commandment. Our love for Him flows naturally from His love for us. We love because He first loved us.

But Christian love doesn’t stop there. 1 John 3:16 presents a stunning challenge: “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us, and we also ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” This is love at its highest level. Godly love is sacrificial, selfless, and supernatural. Jesus commanded His followers to love one another as He has loved us. This means loving people when they’re difficult, when they hurt us, when they disappoint us. It means drawing from the inexhaustible storehouse of love we’ve received from Christ and pouring it out on others, even our enemies.

This kind of love isn’t natural. It’s distinctly Christian, a supernatural work that testifies to the world that we belong to Someone greater than ourselves.

Wisdom For Today

7 Surely oppression destroys a wise man’s reason, And a bribe debases the heart. 8 The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. 9 Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools. 10 Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not inquire wisely concerning this. 11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance, And profitable to those who see the sun. 12 For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

Ecclesiastes 7:7-12

Ecclesiastes 7 reveals to us the need for Godly wisdom. The wisdom of the Lord is greater than the sage advice of the world. And wisdom is needed today by each and every Believer.

Today’s guidance emphasizes the importance of refraining from accepting bribes and actively opposing oppression.  Wisdom also implores us to be patient, humble and not easily angered. We also find that Godly wisdom is profitable to us and acts as a defense against the foolish pursuits of this life.

We need wisdom in our day. Knowledge and facts are good to know. But, wisdom tells us what to do with our knowledge and principles. Wisdom helps us assemble our learning in a way that we can apply to the circumstances of our life. May God give us wisdom!

One

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Ephesians 4:4-6

Paul speaks here of the “ones” of the Christian faith. They are…

**One Body

**One Spirit

**One Hope

**One Lord

**One Faith

**One Baptism

**One Father

There are not many ways to heaven. Only one way leads to paradise. Jesus is the way. Christ is the one way. Christ is the only way.

Sword Of The Spirit

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Ephesians 6:17

Let us take up the Word of God which is the sword of the Spirit. The Bible, God’s Holy Word, is our help and strength as we study it and apply it to our lives. Without it, we are left to wander and follow our own devices.

4 Facts About the Bible

**The Bible is God’s Truthful Word

**The Bible is God’s Total Word

**The Bible is God’s Timely Word

**The Bible is God’s Transforming Word

As Christians and as churches, let us not seek mere tradition, the past, or “that’s what we used to do” as our guiding light. Let us look to the light of God’s Word as He leads us into the future. Wield the Sword of the Spirit, Child of God. Take it up and fight against the schemes of the evil one.
