Holy

Holiness is a moral attribute of God. At its core, holiness means to be distinct, set apart. The biblical word “holy” (as it applies to God) carries with it the idea of God being separate and distinct from any other person or anything else in the entirety of the universe. Holiness also imparts the fact that God (being uncreated and eternal) “does not depend on anyone or anything to bring Him into existence or to sustain Him in being.” [1]

God’s holiness means He is majestic and powerful. The Scriptures declare “There is no one holy like the LORD, Indeed, there is no one besides You, nor is there any rock like our God.    (1 Samuel 2:2) God is above and beyond all His creation. He is sovereign over all creation.

Isaiah’s vision of God holiness was breathtaking and awesome. Around the throne of God, the angels cry out “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory.”  (Isaiah 6:3). Nothing can compare to the God of Scripture.

In Revelation 4, John gives us a companion scene to Isaiah’s vision. The cries of “Holy, Holy, Holy” rise up continually amidst the throne of God. He is awesome, mighty, and powerful. No one can resist His plans.

Dear fellow Believer, the God of the Bible is holy. The God we serve and owe everything to, He is Holy, Holy, Holy. He calls us to be holy and separate as well. “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 6:7) He is holy. Therefore, we should seek holiness every day.

Purity

Purity is not optional in the life of a Believer. We are commanded to be holy, pure, and upright in this life. We are to live in ways that honor and please God.

We understand that we cannot be perfect. We will sin and make mistakes on a day to day basis. BUT, our imperfection should cause to pursue purity all the more. And our imperfections should never be used as an excuse for our sin.

Why are we to pure and holy in our lives? Consider these precepts…………….

For I am the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy.   Leviticus 11:45

Flee from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body, ”but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body. 

1 Corinthians 6:18-20

 Husbands, love your wives, just as also Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, to make her holy, cleansing her in the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and blameless.  Ephesians 5:25-27

But, as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct.

1 Peter 1:15

As Christians, we should strive for holiness in everyday living. We do not strive in order to gain our salvation but we strive so that we may please God and reveal our salvation to others. (Ephesians 2:8-10)  Let us commit to live holy lives in the midst of an unholy culture.

The Presence of God

In Exodus 25, God commanded the people of Israel to build what would be known as the ark of covenant. It was an ornate chest that symbolized the greatness and might of God. This “ark of the covenant” is featured prominently in Israel’s history at different points in the Old Testament.

The ark still teaches us much today even though we are no longer under the law. It still has meaning and teaches us principles for our time. An examination of these principles will follow.

First, the ark symbolized the purity of God.  The ark was to be overlaid with pure gold inside and out. (Exodus 25:11) The purity of God would be memorialized through the purity of the gold. God is pure and holy and the ark would serve as a reminder of that fact.

Second, the ark symbolized the presence of God. The ark would dwell in the most holy place of the tabernacle and later in the same place in the temple. (Exodus 40:20-21)  It would remain as a perpetual illustration to remind the people that God was with them. They would be His people and He would be there God. 

Also, the ark symbolized the purposes of God. The ark would serve as an illustration of the covenant of God with His people. The mercy seat or “atonement cover” was placed on the top of the ark and there the High Priest would place the blood of the sacrifice to atone for the sins of the people. (Leviticus 16:14) The mercy of God would be found through the sacrifices remunerated each year on the Day of Atonement.

What does this mean for Believers today? We need to be in awe of the purity of God. In a world that is filled with impurity, God’s purity shines forth like the sun.

We should realize that God dwells with us as well. He indwells us through the power of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 3:16) We no longer look to an object because He is with us at all times.

Finally, the ark instructs us about Jesus. It is through the blood of Jesus that our sins are ultimately removed and we are forgiven. (Hebrews 10) His sacrifice was accepted and fulfilled the entirety of the law for us.

As Paul says “but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  (1 Corinthians 15:57) Be blessed today!

Fear The Lord

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You.

Psalm 33:18-22

Thoughts about Psalm 33……………………………

God is our help. He is our sustainer, provider, and shield. Even when things go wrong, he guards, guides, and protects. We need “God our help” each day. Cling to Him and serve Him dear Christian.

God is holy. We can trust in His holy name always. I don’t know what battles you are facing this week. I do know that you can trust in God’s holy name. We should trust and rejoice because we know who is in control.

God is loving. His lovingkindness endures to His people. Paul tells that even when we are faithless, God is faithful. (2 Timothy 2:13) We can rest in Christ, put our hope in Christ, and serve all of our days because of His faithful lovingkindness.

It is so true. When Christ is all you have, you truly understand He is all you need!

Sustained

Guard The Truth

Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Matthew 7:6

Finally, we are to be guardians of the truth. Do not allow the holy things to be treated as cheap and unholy. May we protect the truth at all cost.

Essentially, there is a right time and a wrong time to share and help. If someone is not willing to be helped, perhaps it’s better to wait. If someone is not ready to receive truth and help, perhaps trying to help them in that condition can do more harm than good. 

We have been entrusted with a precious truth. May we protect it and share it carefully.

Ultimately, Matthew 7:1-6 teaches us the following principle; don’t be a hypocrite. Deal with your own sin, shortcomings, and hang-ups before you try to help others.

Pray for your own authenticity. Examine yourself often as hypocrisy often creeps up on us without us noticing it. Hold to the truth and share it as God leads and provides opportunity.

The Bible

How do know that Bible is the Word of God? How can we trust that the Bible is true? These are important questions that deserve an answer. Let us answer that query in three ways.

**The Bible is Inspired.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

**The Bible is Infallible.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Psalm 19:7-8

**The Bible is Authoritative

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:19-21

These things are true. Therefore, let us commit to the continued study of God’s Word!
