Do Good

16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

James 4:16-17

Failure to do good when given the opportunity is a sin for the Believer. That is the message of James 4:16-17 and it is our message for today.  Those who cease to do good when they know they should be helpful are committing an act of treason against the Lord.

Sin is not simply trespass, falling short, lawlessness, or transgressing God’s law. It is all those things. But, sin is also eschewing the chances that God gives us to do good things for others. Let us not be guilty of this transgression. May we always be looking to fulfill good for those around us. And may God bless us in this endeavor.

A Vapor

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.

James 4:13-14

Life on this planet is brief and uncertain. We can make our plans and preparations and there is wisdom in doing so. However, our path can be changed in an instant. Nothing is guaranteed in this life and we must acknowledge that fact.

Life is short and no one is promised tomorrow. James tells us that our lives are like a vapor, a cloud. We appear for a short while and then we are gone. The words of the Apostle are true and faithful.

As a result of this, let us live our lives in a way that honors and pleases God. May we, as the Lord’s people, be faithful to His Word, His will, and His ways. Only one life will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

The Gospel

**The Gospel Reveals The Truth

12 To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that [e]preached the gospel unto you [by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

1 Peter 1:12

**The Gospel Redeems Sinners

Today

14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

James 4:14

Life on this planet is brief. Compared to eternity, our existence here is truly just a small blip on the screen. There is no guarantee of tomorrow. In light of all this what are we to do?

Believe in Jesus and be saved. Trust Jesus for our future. And live for Him each day that we have. Tomorrow may never arrive. Let us use this day to honor and glorify our Lord!

Purity

Purity is not optional in the life of a Believer. We are commanded to be holy, pure, and upright in this life. We are to live in ways that honor and please God.

We understand that we cannot be perfect. We will sin and make mistakes on a day to day basis. BUT, our imperfection should cause to pursue purity all the more. And our imperfections should never be used as an excuse for our sin.

Why are we to pure and holy in our lives? Consider these precepts…………….

For I am the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy.   Leviticus 11:45

Flee from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body, ”but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Husbands, love your wives, just as also Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, to make her holy, cleansing her in the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and blameless.  Ephesians 5:25-27

But, as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct.

1 Peter 1:15

As Christians, we should strive for holiness in everyday living. We do not strive in order to gain our salvation but we strive so that we may please God and reveal our salvation to others. (Ephesians 2:8-10)  Let us commit to live holy lives in the midst of an unholy culture.

Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.   Romans 8:28

We are going to think about a wonderful verse today.  Romans 8:28 speaks to us in the good times and bad. We rely upon this assurance and through it we are reminded that God is always moving and working. Let us take a moment and dissect this verse in this post.

“And we know” It is a certain promise. We don’t have to guess and wonder about this promise. It is certain and sure.

“that God causes” It is a caused promise. God uses and works all things in our life to our ultimate good. The verse doesn’t say that God is the cause of evil or sin for we know He is not the author of such things. This scripture reminds us that God is able to turn evil for ultimate good.

“all things” It is a complete promise. God uses everything in our life to shape us, mold us, and conform us to the image of Christ. (Romans 8:29) God uses the good, the bad, the sweet, and the sorrowful to advance His cause in our life.

“to work together for good to those who love God” It is a conditional promise. Romans 8:28 is a guarantee for believers. It is not a general pledge to all mankind. It is ONLY for those who love God and those who are called to His purpose.

“to those who are called according to His purpose”  It is a consecrating promise. God is using all things to make us holy and sanctified. He calls us to be His witness (Acts 1:8) and His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) so that we may fulfill His purposes.

Accomplishing God’s purpose for our lives brings true joy and peace. It is what we truly desire as Christians. As a result of this promise, let us commit to trust Christ, serve Him, and rely upon Him each and every day!
