Growing By Faith

We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father.  1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Paul’s letter to the church at Thessalonica begins with warm encouragement to the people of God. The Apostle mentions three things that he keeps in mind as he prays for them daily. Let us look at these three points as we examine these verses. And let’s ask ourselves “are these true of my relationship with Christ and are these true in my church?”

First, Paul exhorts them for their “work of faith.” This church was growing in their faith and trust in Christ. They were working to see their faithfulness increase and it was showing. Can the same be said of us?

Next, Paul encourages them as he speaks of their “labor of love.” They were reaching to love one another all the more in light of Christ’s love for them. Love is an action word. It doesn’t just happen. Instead, we must pursue it by choice of the mind and the heart. Are we growing daily in love for God and love for others?

Paul’s final admonition is to grow in “steadfastness of hope.” The hope they had was based on God’s Word and His promises. It is the same hope that we continue to cling to in our time. Biblical hope is not a maybe or a chance. It is a bedrock, steadfast assurance that God will do what He said He will do. We can trust this hope in every circumstance of life.

Keep growing in faith, love, and hope dear Christian. And my way we pray that our spiritual growth will be seen and manifested in our lives as we live, work, and serve the Lord Jesus. Blessings upon you all!
